O Lord of hosts, Blessed is the man who trusts in You! Psalms 84:12

Lately, a simple refrain from my childhood is coming back to me again and again.

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

No great theology, just two simple but profound commands that we can sometimes find difficult to put into practice, and yet if we did these two things all the time our lives would be full of joy.

Trust:

We come up against problems in our own lives, our loved one's lives and the life of the church. We have concerns about tragedies we see on the world stage. Perhaps we worry about how a situation will turn out, there seems to be no way it can ever be solved. Yet when we look back at the past we see that God has always worked everything out for the best. Because He loves us, we can trust Him in all things.

I will always trust in God’s unfailing love. Psalms 52:8

Obey:

To obey we have to listen. In the big decisions of life we pray and seek the will of God because we don't want to mess up our lives by making a catastrophic mistake. But sometimes in the small, seemingly inconsequential, day to day living we just do what we like without listening too carefully to God in case what we hear upsets our plans.Let us be one who listens for every whisper of God's voice, and when we hear we obey.

Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. John 14:21

We trust God because He loves us. We obey God because we love Him
