When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him. Isaiah 59 v 19

Have you ever seen the damage caused by a flood? Have you ever seen a river in full spate, bursting its’ banks and overflowing, caused untold damage to the territory beyond those banks?

Floods can cause immense damage, some seen, some unseen. Sometimes the floodwaters seep into areas we can’t see, they lie there undetected, slowly rotting away what is hidden beneath until one day the damage done by the flood is uncovered and all the rot and broken-ness is laid bare.

Sometimes our lives can feel like this, as if the floodwaters have engulfed us, or they have seeped into our innermost being and lie there causing hurt and pain which no one can see. But be encouraged by this verse for the week…When the enemy shall come in life a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall life up a standard against him……Praise God, it’s not you that has to lift up your own standard and fight against the enemy….the Spirit of the Lord lifts up the standard against the powers of darkness….the Spirit of the Lord lifts up Christ; He is our standard and He is the one that is lifted up against the powers of darkness….And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me (John 12 v 32) Let the Holy Spirit draw you to Christ. Let the Holy Spirit lift up the standard against the powers of darkness and know that, although the enemy may come in like a flood, Christ is your standard and you can hide yourself in Him.
