"On coming to the house they (the wise men) saw the child with His mother Mary and they bowed down and worshiped him......." Matthew 2 v 11
I love the Christmas story. I love reading about the journey Mary and Joseph took to Bethlehem. I love when the Angels appear to the shepherds and say "Glory to God in the Highest". I love that simple manger scene where the baby Jesus is born in obscurity, and those in Bethlehem had no idea what had happened in their midst. But this year as I have meditated on the Christmas story, another verse has etched itself into my soul. "On coming to the house they (the wise men) saw the child with His mother Mary and they bowed down and worshiped him......." These men had been on the road a long time. They were weary and tired from their journey. They would have been forgiven if they have gone to a hotel, had a good night's sleep, had breakfast the next morning and then gone on to find Jesus...but they didn't. Nor did they make a grand entrance "Look, we've arrived, we're here, phew, that was some journey"......no, we read quite simply that they bowed down and worshipped. That's all. No grand entrance, no big long speeches, they simply looked at Jesus and worshipped Him. Perhaps on the lead up to Christmas this year you are finding yourself weary, feeling tired and discouraged. Then take a moment aside from all the busy-ness and fretfulness of the journey of life. Do what those wise men did long ago at that very first Christmas time.....bow down and worship Him.
