"And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21
I love trees. I think many people do. Those of us who do, love the lime green leaves appearing in spring. We love the extravagance of the trees in their summer finery. We love the wonderful reds, yellows and golds of autumn. We love the trees when all the leaves have disappeared and we can trace their dark silhouettes against the winter skies. One can really see their imposing structure then.
I love Christmas. I think many people do. We love the coloured lights and decorations. We love the cards and the presents. We love the time with family and friends. We love being able to eat as much as we like without feeling guilty.
But always at the heart, is the reality and truth of the Christmas story - Jesus, the Son of God, came to this earth as a newborn baby to save us from our sins.
This Christmas let us take time to meditate, away from all the external trappings, on the glorious, stark beauty of the cross.
