Remembrance Service

by Susie Jean Sharkey

Outside our Glasgow Church there is a beautiful war memorial and on Remembrance Sunday we hold a short service at the memorial. This year Mrs Kerr who is 94 and served in the WRAF during World War 2 laid a wreath in remembrance of those killed in World Wars 1 and 2.  Matthew Sharkey then laid a wreath in remembrance of six of his colleagues who died in 2009 in Afghanistan. The name of each of the young men is in the centre of the wreath along with the date they laid down their lives. It was a very moving service and we remember today all those who have died in conflict for our freedom.
